Health and Workplace Safety – 7 steps to develop a comprehensive Safety Program


Health and workplace safety programs are a key factor in operating a successful business. Workplace Safety does not have to be complicated. There are steps that should be followed to make your plans as comprehensive and complete as possible. If you focus on what own business needs you can identify what security training needs are for those jobs.

1. Determine what the job requirements are

Each job is unique and requires a unique methodology, equipment or skilled workers to carry out. Determining what needs work, there are ways to stand back and look at all aspects from start to finish. Are the projects require special knowledge or skills of the employee? Is the equipment adequate? To complete the work, require employers to identify what the needs are, that, training is sure to be one of them.

2. Determine what the training needs are

Some training mandated OSHA. In the US, there are two exercises that are required on an annual basis. They are dangerous interactions and Publication Administration. Other exercises are only a proxy if employees are performing certain tasks. For example, if no one at work using personal protective equipment, it is not required. However, if an employee uses fall protection equipment, training is essential. Employers are required to do a job risk assessment for each job. This is how training needs are determined.

3. Decide which goals and objectives are

After the employer has identified what the training needs are, they need a second to decide which goals and objectives are. The objectives are processes that employees need to do to achieve the business objectives. Because goals are based on employees’ performance, they need to be clearly transferred to these employees. Employees will be better able to meet the company’s goals if they know first exactly what is expected of them. For example, say a company goal is to make a million widgets a year. The employee must have a plan and a way to meet the goal. Maybe need certain knowledge to teach, to one million equipment to do!

4. Determine what Learning Activities Will Be

Now the employer has what employment and training needs are. They set goals and objectives. It is time to develop how training is delivered. Some training can be delivered in classroom style, while some enjoy more one on one style. If the training is personal in nature, such as personal protective equipment, hands on activities is the best method.

5. Conduct training

Conducting training is important to the overall health and safety at work. A company can have the best laid out and detailed plan in the world, but if no one knows it, it is useless. Safety training should keep training as interesting and interactive as possible. They should also use some mechanism to check understanding as well. Allow questions and asking questions is a good way to keep things interactive as well as checking for understanding.

6. Evaluate Safety Program A safety training is only successful if it is updated and regularly. If employees do not seem to learn or pay attention, then something needs to change. Some ways to evaluate the program is to get the views of students or to have someone monitoring exercises.

7. Add security program

After evaluation of the safety program, the next logical step is to make changes and improve it. Security programs also need to be updated when the job duties or employees change. If new equipment or techniques are introduced, ensuring programs are changed as well. Remember that comprehensive health and workplace safety programs are the key to running a productive and safe company. OSHA requires safety training.
